Trends in livestock slaughtered and meat produced
Cattle
Compared to March 2019:
- Cattle slaughtered increased 0.3% to 695,700 head
- Beef production increased 0.1% to 197,300 tonnes
Compared to April 2018:
- Cattle slaughtered increased 7.8%
- Beef production increased 3.8%
Calves
Compared to March 2019:
- Calves slaughtered increased 2.9% to 49,900 head
- Veal production increased 3.8% to 2,300 tonnes
Compared to April 2018:
- Calves slaughtered increased 43.8%
- Veal production increased 63.8%
Sheep
Compared to March 2019:
- Sheep slaughtered increased 1.2% to 835,600 head
- Mutton production increased 0.7% to 19,400 tonnes
Compared to April 2018:
- Sheep slaughtered increased 7.3%
- Mutton production increased 6.4%
Lamb
Compared to March 2019:
- Lambs slaughtered decreased 0.3% to 1.92 million head
- Lamb production increased 0.1% to 44,500 tonnes
Compared to April 2018:
- Lambs slaughtered decreased 4.6%
- Lamb production decreased 2.3%
